Summer Festival Essentials - What To Pack

Only a week until Camp Bestival so I have been busy packing my essentials, a few things that make life a bit more comfortable while camping. You know when you attend a weekend festival that you will be roughing it. Sleeping on hard ground and smelly portaloo's can leave you feeling less than glamorous, but there are a few products out there that are perfect for a quick freshen up and that help to make you feel better.

Firstly I love 'Green Tea and Verbena Energizing Perfumed Spray' from Avon Naturals. It smells like heaven and it isn't too heavy, great to keep in your festival bag for spritzing yourself throughout the day. I love it! It is nice and light, with not a heavy scent. Next up I really like another product from Avon Naturals, the 'Daily Hair Refresher'. It is super for freshening up your hair in between washes and ideal if you can't wash your hair all weekend.

A good deodorant is of course an essential festival must have, and the one I always buy is Sure Compressed. I find this is the longest lasting anti-perspirant spray and it never lets me down. Sure have recently created the world’s first antiperspirant Motionsense™ technology that is activated directly by movement, making sure that you are kept protected Motionsense™ has unique microcapsules that break with friction to release bursts of freshness all day. Sounds great doesn't it.

So, that lot will keep me smelling fresh while I'm enjoying my weekend at Camp Bestival, which leaves my fashion must haves, which are: a poncho for those chilly evenings (I got my aztec design woolly poncho from Asos in the sale for £6!), a flower garland for my hair (the bigger the better - mine was from Primark for £2), a hat for shade and protection from the sun, comfy shoes (I'm taking a pair of espadrilles, so comfy), wellies and a waterproof jacket or rain-proof poncho (available from Tesco for £1).

Other essentials I have packed are:

Glow Sticks
Wet Wipes
Hand sanitizer
Loo Rolls
Sun block
Torches
Fairy lights & Bunting to decorate the tent

Camp Bestival For Teens

This will be our second year as official Camp Bestival bloggers and we can not wait! Last year we took our Granddaughter who was eight and our eleven year old niece and we had an amazing time, this year will be all about the teens. We will be focusing on teenagers being introduced to their first festival, in a family environment where us 'oldies' can keep an eye on them at a distance without cramping their style. We all know that Camp Bestival is fantastic for the whole family, especially the under 12's but lots of people have asked me what it is like for older kids, so this year we will be showing you what this award winning family festival provides for families with teenagers.

We will be taking three teenagers aged 14 and 16 and so far the acts that they are most looking forward to seeing on the main stage are Ella Henderson, Professor Green and Clean Bandit. They can't wait to check out The Den, an area for 13 - 17 year olds, curated by a small team of young festival producers. Here, the kids will find special guests from the Guardian Literary Institute, the best bits of Rob da Bank’s Music Club, film screenings, open mic sessions and there is even a 'Blogging - How to' hosted by Tilly Young, a 14 yr old Teen Vogue blogger.

Last year the fantastically talented 'Beans On Toast' hosted a workshop with a group of teenagers who he named 'The Unicorns' and invited them all up on stage with him to perform a song they had written together. This was so good that it was one of the highlights of Camp Bestival  last year for us.

The teens are also looking forward to the grub. Chunky Chips & Wicked Dips, Pazzo's Pizza, The DeadGood Burrito Co, The Fabulous Fishfinger Co and loads more. Yum!

Are you planning on attending a festival with teens this year?
We just can't wait to see what Camp Bestival has in store for us this year.

1of100 T-Shirt Review

Here at The Syders we are busy getting ourselves ready for Camp Bestival and have picked up a few fashion essentials like new hats, poncho's, flower crowns and some funky T-shirts just like these from 1of100.

1of100 are a Scottish apparel label that designs and manufactures t-shirts in 100 copies only. They are a bunch of really cool people who were sick to the back teeth of poorly designed T-shirts manufactured and mass produced in third world countries, so they decided to make their own in Scotland and offer great limited additions to customers at reasonable prices. How fab is that!

We love their stuff. The T-shirts are superb quality and wash up really well. We really like their cycling designs. When they started the company, 1of100 were keen to include cycling themed designs, mainly because most of the founders and staff were running a bike rental shop in the centre of the University of Dundee campus in Scotland. The bicycle is a passion close to all their hearts, so to celebrate the 230th birthday of Karl Drais, (the man considered the inventor of the very first bicycle) they designed a cycling themed collection.

They are really great, especially if you have a cycling hubby, brother, boyfriend or Dad who would love a bicycle themed gift. Pop over and check out all their designs here

*We were sent two 1of100 T-shirts free of charge for the purpose of this review. Our views and opinions are entirely our own.

Active Family Adventure With Berghaus

We are a very outdoorsy family, and have always been really active with the kids. We love the countryside, forest and being at the beach. Nature and adventure go hand in hand for us and we love nothing more than to pack up some sarnies, a flask of tea and explore the great outdoors. We also love family festivals, cooking by campfire and sleeping under canvas.

We have a dream of one day backpacking across America, travelling by train and camping at various overnight stops along the way. That would be our idea of a dream active family adventure.

Outdoor clothing brand Berghaus recently conducted a survey of UK parents asking them how often their family get together to for active activities like bike riding, ice skating or a country walks. The results were surprising, showing that nearly 50% of parents admit that they don’t manage it more than once every other month.

In light of these results, Berghaus are encouraging families to swap the video games and evenings in front of the TV for getting outside and enjoying more active family adventures. Whether you enjoy country walks, a spot of bird watching, beachcombing or a day of playing games in the park with the kids. Share your outdoor family picture or video with Berghaus on Twitter (@TheRealBerghaus) or Instagram (@berghausofficial) using the hashtag #activefamilyadventures or upload directly on to their website and you could win a family trip to Go Ape – plus your entry will appear in the competition gallery. Easy Peasy.

What is your favourite family adventure?

Trespass Waterproof Jacket Review

I'm really lucky to live where I do, being surrounded by coast and countryside means I can go on long walks everyday. I have my pedometer and I aim for 10,000 steps per day across farm fields and long river walks. I love it, the fresh air invigorates me and I find it a great exercise for losing weight. It is essential to have a quality waterproof jacket, simply because our typical British weather is so unpredictable, I always expect some rain and I hate to feel all soggy and wet through while I'm hiking across the countryside.

I am a big fan of 3 in 1 jackets because they are such good value for money, having a fleece and a jacket that you can wear separately as well as together. It just makes value for money sense to me. This 3 in 1 jacket is from Trespass and I adore it's bright turquoise color ( my favorite color) and I love it's funky flower print on the front. It also has a pretty flower print embossed throughout the lining in a subtle grey design. I always look for small touches like that whenever I purchase a jacket. I'm a sucker for a nice lining.

This jacket is lightweight and perfect for walking, hiking and camping. I will be packing it for this years Camp Bestival to keep me cosy and dry while we camp for the weekend.

Features:
  • Embossed Polyester Lining
  • Underarm Ventilation Zips
  • Adjustable Zip Off Hood
  • Three Zip Pockets
  • Inner Pockets
  • Hem Drawcord With Side Adjusters
  • Elasticated Cuffs With Adjustable Tabs
Bottom Line - What Do We Think? Big thumbs up from me. As a plus size lady I like a jacket that flatters my hips and this jacket does that perfectly. I love it!

The Kaya Womens 3 in 1 Waterproof Jacket is available from Trespass priced at £39.99 (originally £89.95).

Juicing - Ginger And Apple Shots

I am a huge fan of juicing since buying my juicer in 2014. I super-juiced myself by going on a 14 day juice fast last year and I felt incredible. It was a tough fortnight but there were some great benefits to doing it, like I lost two stone, my blood pressure dropped considerably (my doctor nearly fell off her chair and even thought her blood pressure monitor was faulty) and I discovered the power of a plant based diet and the health benefits of certain juices. My favorite are apple and ginger shots. They are so quick and easy and simple to freeze in ice cube trays or bags.

Start your day with an apple and ginger shot and you will notice your energy levels increase almost immediately (better than an espresso). They are also said to be fabulous for your immune system, fighting off those colds, morning sickness, hayfever (ginger is a natural antihistamine), heartburn and helps to aid digestion.

What You Need: (fills two ice cube bags - so double or triple ingredients for a good supply)
  • 8 x Apples
  • 2" Fresh Ginger
  • Ice cube trays or bags
Method - Simple, just juice up your ingredients, pour into your ice cube trays/bags and freeze. Pop a few out into a glass every morning, let defrost and knock back.

Have you discovered juicing yet?
Noticed any benefits?
 Got any tips for me?
